At Versowood, internal communications gets the attention it deserves
Versowood, Finland’s largest privately owned mechanical wood-processing company, operating in thirteen locations across the country, has mastered the versatile use of digital information displays. Primarily used for internal communications, the digital information displays keep employees up to date by conveying information ranging from the day’s lunch menu and workplace safety updates to open positions and production data.
Founded in 1946, Versowood is a Finnish family-owned company with customers in 60 countries in addition to Finland. The company’s headquarters are located in Vierumäki, from where internal communications, along with many other functions, are coordinated. As a long-established company, Versowood also has extensive experience in utilising digital information displays. However, the original system was soon found to be difficult to use and was not considered to meet the needs of internal communications.
– We were looking for a system that would be easy to use and easy to update. In addition, we wanted scheduling to be easy, content to be publishable only to selected displays, and the ability to present content via an HTML link as well, says Mia Kärkkäinen, Senior Manager, Marketing and Sales at Versowood.
The wish list didn’t end there. In addition, the implementation needed to be smooth, and content creation had to be possible without extensive training.
When we were introduced to iDiD, we found that it met all the criteria we had set for a digital signage system. iDiD’s ease of use, flexibility, Finnish origin, and free training services ultimately sealed our decision.
— An additional positive surprise was that the implementation was completed according to schedule, and we were able to start creating new content right away.
Eye-catching content
Versowood currently has nearly 50 digital information displays in use across its sites. The digital signage displays are used for internal communications, sharing information on topics such as workplace safety, open positions, production figures and current events. The displays are also an excellent way to recognize employees for a job well done and to help introduce new faces to the workplace community.
– Thanks to the flexible hierarchy of the iDiD system, we were able to organize the digital signage displays by business are across all our locations. This has made both content publishing and targeting highly effective, Mia says with satisfaction.

At Versowood, the timely and dynamic content has received the most praise. Employees have also learned to follow the displays in order to stay up to date with what is happening across the company.
We also make extensive use of iDiD’s automatically updating weather, news, date and time widgets, not to mention the various counters available. Videos have worked very well for us as well.
– I’ve been pleased to notice that people always turn their attention to the displays.
Multiple content creators
The display hierarchy can be tailored to the organization’s needs, enabling content update and maintenance responsibilities to be delegated to different users.
– At the moment, I create and maintain the content myself. The plan is to appoint a dedicated user from each unit, who will be able to update local content on their respective displays. This is made possible by the system’s ease of use and by onboarding new users with the help of iDiD’s free training sessions, Mia says when discussing the company’s future plans.
In addition to the training sessions, iDiD’s support service receives unreserved praise from this seasoned digital signage user.
I’d give the support team a perfect ten out of ten. The service is always fast and friendly. It’s the best support team I’ve ever worked with, apart from Versowood’s own support team.
