The iDiD System

Overview

iDiD is a software and web service designed to remotely control the contents of several info/smart displays. It can be easily utilized to manage the content of displays or groups of displays in a timed manner. The displays are equipped with the iDiD Player software that fetches the content off the server and takes care of presenting it. Management takes place in a web browser in the iDiD Admin web service. No third party software is required to update the player. Updating is also possible on a tablet computer or a mobile phone that has a web browser and supports flash.

iDiD relies on AdobeAir, Flash, php and HTML5 technologies and is a device and operating system independent software.  The basis of the system's development has been optimizing the software for Digital Signage display devices and first of all, the utilization of touch screen technology. If the system is used to manage touch screens, the interactive functionalities can be independent programs, html pages, flash applications or other web-based solutions. Server-side optimization both enables the system to be used quickly and effectively and allows for the upkeep of a very large clientele on the same server.

The system has been developed from the user's point of view, emphasizing easy usability and the creation of a modern and intuitive user interface. Strong, visual, attention-grabbing transitions, different slide templates and diverse content editing and timing options within the system bring the Digital Signage software a competitive edge that the systems on the market are lacking. The content that can be displayed on the screen ranges from images, text, flash animations, video files and HTML pages to RSS feeds and combinations of any of these. Users can control all of the content straight through the system. No external update software or devices are required.

The system is intended for high-quality Full HD info and touch screens, so the screens' playback performance matches today's playback requirements. The screens can be used both vertically and horizontally. The software is at its best with the thoroughly tested and optimized iDiD displays. They are displays meant for public spaces that contain everything encased in a stylish frame.

iDiD Player

The presentation software is installed on the Digital Signage device, and it's shipped as an Adobe Air application. The Player takes care of fetching the content from the server, saving it locally and reporting to the server about the functionality states. The software recognizes previous updates and fetches data from the server only when the content changes. In the case of a network malfunction the screen displays the content that's locally saved on the device. Use of iDiD is also possible in expos and events without a fixed internet connection.

The effects used by iDiD Player are also optimized for lighter hardware, which increases the versatility of the system. The software also automatically updates any newly added transitions and other effects from the server.

iDiD Admin

You log in to the system management on a web browser.

In addition to the administrators, the system utilizes two different user levels. With them, the user privileges can be flexibly defined to their updating needs.
-The Template Editor level gives you the rights to manage display groups, and to edit and control the templates shown on the customer's displays.
-The Slide Editor level users have access to the Slide Editor, which is used to compose and update the content according to the possibilities and limitations dictated by the template.

Templates

The system allows for the controlled creation of templates that define the publications. The Template editor is used to create the templates that guarantee a visual identity that's in line with the customer's graphic identity guidelines, even if there are multiple updaters for the displays. The templates can contain locked position images, text and other graphic elements in addition to places for published content. E.g. if an advertisement agency takes care of the creation and management of several different customers' templates,  they are displayed arranged in customer-specific groups in the visually pleasing UI.

Slides

The management of display content and fluid usage of the Slide Editor is the most essential part of Digital Signage publishing. An editor that is both easy to learn and use allows for quick adding or updating of text, images and other elements and publishing to a desired target: one display, several separate displays, a display group at the same location or even every single display in the organization, limited by the previously defined user privileges. In the Slide Editor you can also define the contents' presentation times using date and time definitions.  The Editor has been implemented as a highly visual and intuitive user interface in which e.g. the presentation order of the content can be easily modified by dragging the slides with the mouse.

Media

The video and image files that are to be displayed on the screens can be uploaded to the media bank, where they are at the disposal of the users of the customer in question. The functionalities of the media bank have been particularly designed for use in Digital Signage. The media bank and several other features of the system have been optimized to minimize server load. For example, the images that are uploaded to the media bank are automatically resized to the optimal size before uploading them to the server.
